Privacy policy

Effective September 6, 2026

Overview

NetBar does not require an account. Versions with AdMob show banner ads on the History tab for free users. Pro removes banners. The developer does not operate a NetBar analytics or measurement backend. Usage totals, preferences, custom targets, and saved test history stay inside the app container on your device.

Network information on your device

NetBar reads aggregate byte counters exposed by iOS for active network interfaces. It cannot see which app generated traffic, packet contents, browsing history, account credentials, or a carrier’s billing records.

Speed tests

A speed test transfers real data to Cloudflare only after you start a test. Cloudflare receives your IP address, estimates country/city and ISP Autonomous System Number information, truncates the IP address, and collects anonymized performance measurements. Cloudflare may share anonymized measurement information with measurement partners. This processing is governed by the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Latency checks

When you start a built-in or custom latency check, NetBar opens short TCP connections to the selected public host. That host receives ordinary connection information such as your IP address and may maintain server logs under its own privacy policy. NetBar rejects private and local-network custom addresses.

Purchases

Apple processes in-app purchases. NetBar receives StoreKit product and entitlement information, not payment-card details. Apple’s handling of purchase information is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Advertising and privacy choices

AdMob-enabled versions use Google Mobile Ads and Google’s User Messaging Platform. These services may process IP address (and approximate location), device or app identifiers, ad views and interactions, crash reports, and performance information for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention. NetBar requests non-personalized ads, disables publisher first-party ID, and does not request permission to access IDFA. Non-personalized ads still process data.

Where required, a consent message is presented before requesting ads. You can revisit Ad privacy choices in Settings when available. If consent cannot be established, ads remain paused. Banners are hidden during connection checks and for Pro users. See Google’s advertising privacy information.

Retention and your controls

Local history remains on your device until you delete it in NetBar Settings or remove the app. You can avoid provider processing by not starting a speed or latency test. NetBar does not have a server-side profile to delete. If you export data, the exported copies are managed wherever you save or share them.

Support correspondence

If you email the developer, your email address and the information you choose to send are used to respond to your request. Email is handled through Gmail. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, or other sensitive information.

This website

This website is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub logs visitors’ IP addresses for security purposes. See the GitHub Privacy Statement. This site does not add advertising, analytics scripts, or contact forms.

Children

NetBar is not directed specifically to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

This policy may change when NetBar’s functionality or providers change. The effective date above will be updated when material changes are published.
